About Us

Dad and Son

Vance Video Productions began on a more serious note in 2007 with the recording of my own hunt for memories sake.  Within two years our reputation for producing quality, affordable videos has grown and is entering a new level of achievement.

Since childhood I have been interested in hunting, photography and video, and like a lot of other hunters, have wanted movies of my own experiences.  Some of my earlier hunts were recorded with the antiquated VHS camcorders, and then the VHS-C format.  While I still have memories of old hunts on film and converted to DVD, they are not the quality videos that someone else would want to pay money for.  Those cameras did not produce quality productions like we have today.  As well, only a few short years ago computers and editing programs were not available to the ordinary guy.

I began filming my son, Nelson, on groundhog hunts when he was about eight years old, but it was more of a family video than anything else. I literally had Nelson shooting when he was still in diapers, so he got an early start with shooting and hunting. Hunting has been one activity that has helped to keep Nelson and me close. We have shared many memorable times together in the fields and woods, and our closeness continues with Vance Video Productions and has become a father and son team.

Having proper equipment is essential to quality videos. Having said that, I believe that cameras that cost in the thousands of dollars are not necessarily required for the production of good videos.  By good, I am referring not only to picture quality, but also to arrangment and content.  I have seen a lot of videos over the years that were both educational and entertaining, that didn’t have all the bells and whistles, that weren’t recorded with expensive cameras, yet they were great videos.  The picture quality was acceptable, the editing was rather simple, but the content was good and enjoyable. Perhaps more than anything, content is the heart of a good movie.

The quality cameras we have today, such as the ones that record in high definition, have set new standards in video. Many of those cameras can be purchased much cheaper than the professional grade cameras used to produce many of the DVDs on the market today.  As well, computers are now a household item, and there are a host of editing programs available to the novice and professional alike that once were only for the professional videographer. This new technology has brought affordable video-making to the average person.

Many of the hunting videos today cost in the thousands of dollars to produce.  I recently talked with one guy who spent approximately $25,000 to produce a video, and that is cheap as compared to many others.  I purchased his video, and while it was well done both in quality and content, it was not what I considered to be worth $25,000 in production costs.

With the concept in mind that all good videos don’t have to be so costly to produce, I began an adventure of my own.  My purpose is to prove that good movies can be produced by an ordinary guy like me, using a reasonably good camera, microphone, tripod, editing program and home computer.

While the average person now has affordable video equipment to choose from, the quality of the footage itself and the way it is put together on DVD remains the single most important factors.  The best cameras in the world cannot produce a good video if the content itself is lacking.  As well, the best content and footage means little if the equipment used is insufficient.

Vance Video Productions videos are not recorded with cameras that cost in the thousands of dollars, yet you will find that our movies are quite good, as is evidenced by the many testimonials we have received.  Our goal is to bring you good entertainment, education on various topics, and movies that are pleasing to watch.  We think you will find our videos to be just that.
